Hilarious Cable Info-Bar Description Of The Day: 'Rhinestone'
Posted at 3:02 PM Jan 21, 2009
By Kenny HerzogWelcome back to one of NSCDUV's most beloved daily features, which takes aim at the most confounding, misleading or abruptly hysterical info-bar synopses of the day's cable programming.
And while yesterday saw Heather Graham and William Baldwin battling to the death over dwindling paper route territory, today the Cable Guide helps bring the mundane preoccupations of reality dating-competitions to the big screen.
Today's entry is:
Rhinestone
The Actual Story: Somewhere in between the cachet of A Christmas Story and Karate Dog on director Bob Clark's resume, and a kindred spirit to fellow Info-Bar honorees Trading Places and Look Who's Talking, Rhinestone follows the tale of a country crooner (recent Awesome Celebrity Birthday recipient Dolly Parton) who tries to win a bet by transforming rough-hewn New York cab driver Sylvester Stallone into a Nashville-ready star.
Cable-Info Bar Synopsis: "Country singer bets virtue she can make cabby a star."
What Their Description Would Have You Believe: That a recurring throughline from Rock Of Love Bus 4: The Search For Curly's Gold, featuring an ongoing wager between three contestants dubbed Country Singer, Virtue and Cabby, was so compelling that producers spun it off into its own feature film, entitled Slippery When Bet.
